At the airport

Day 7 #redcrossjourney – As I sat in the plane at Wellington Airport travelling back to Auckland, I thought about the update I received on Mirza and Asma’s family refugee journey. The family had a difficult time and tragedies in Thailand - they arrived in NZ 3 years after leaving their home and finally got the chance to start a new life in a safe country.
The more steps I walk, the more their journey is revealed to me. It was easier for me to achieve my steps in Wellington as I had no car, l hope I can keep them up in Auckland :)
Mother's day thoughts

Day 5 #redcrossjourney, today is mother’s day as I count my steps, I think of the families that have been separated by armed conflict/disaster/migration and the work that Red Cross does with Restoring Family Links. I know this well as I was a beneficiary of the service many years ago. Thank you mum for approaching Red Cross tracing services. This goes to those mothers with children. To those without children. To those children with mothers. To those that wish their mothers where with them right now. You will understand. Happy mother’s day to all!
The mixing room - Te papa

Day 4 #redcrossjourney One step at a time in Wellington counting steps towards #redcrossjourney. It has been an experience spending time at Te Papa pondering on the many experience's of former refugee resettlement journey. Very humbling being in the mixing room!
Hello friends and family!
I have joined Red Cross Journey because I am inspired by the good work of New Zealand Red Cross. From 8-31 May I will be counting my daily steps to reach my step target. As I reach milestones in this step challenge, I will get updates on the real journey of Mirza and Asma’s family, a refugee background family whose journey includes surviving multiple gunshot wounds, fleeing Pakistan and even losing a daughter, before settling in New Zealand. The more I walk, the more of their real journey will be revealed to me.
Please support me in this challenge by making a secure donation to my fundraising page. Donate now and you too can support New Zealand Red Cross to help vulnerable people at home and overseas.
When you help me to raise money for New Zealand Red Cross, you’re contributing to the Red Cross response to disasters like the November 2016 earthquake, to community development programmes, support for former refugees, community transport, teaching life-saving skills to children, delivering Meals on Wheels and much more.
Thank you in advance for your generosity so, together we can help Red Cross support people in need in New Zealand and overseas.
